The qualification is designed for technically orientated students who wish to follow a vocational career in Systems Engineering. The qualification develops a strong theoretical and practical background in all aspects of maintaining and building all components
of computers and networks. Hardware and software practical hands on training takes place in computer studios and PC Laborities. Students may also use their tablets to extend their skills and knowledge – a perfect entry level qualification.

 

The qualification also places a strong emphasis on technical support skills for office applications by providing the student with skills needed to technically support IT applications as well as networking and end user computing support in the context of modern computer applications.

This qualification is designed for technically oriented students who wish to follow a career in Systems Engineering. The qualification develops a strong theoretical background in all aspects of maintaining and building components of computers and networks. Hardware and software training takes place in computer studios and Personal Computer (PC) laboratories. In hardware training, students build, configure, install and analyse computers and networks. Software training is an industry standard on individual workstations.

 

The qualification provides the student with the flexibility to be employed in the Telecommunications sector, in the Information Technology (IT) and Electronic Industry and in other industries where IT is a key component. The Higher Certificate in Systems Engineering enables students to master the essential skills required to maintain personal computers. This includes building and upgrading computers, the troubleshooting of technical problems, as well as the operating and maintenance of popular systems. The qualification also equips students with a clear understanding of basic networking concepts.

• The minimum entry requirement is a National Senior Certificate or a FET Certificate at NQF Level 4 in an associated field.

• Mature Age Exemption for students above the age of 23 as set out in the Higher Education Regulations. or

• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
