The purpose of this short learning programme is to:
• Describe, analyse, Install, Configure and Test a multi-user operating system.
• Administrate and Test a local area computer network
• Implement a backup strategy for a local area computer network

Brief description of Content:
• This short course is intended:
• To provide proficient knowledge of the areas covered
• Plan the installation of system software for a multi-user networked operating system
• Install a multi-user networked operating system
• Configure a multi-user networked operating system
• Test the installation and configuration of a multi-user networked operating system
• Document the installation of multi-user networked operating system
• To provide a fundamental knowledge of the areas covered
• For those working in, or entering the workplace in the area of Information Technology
• To provide proficient knowledge of the areas covered
• People credited with this short course are able to:
• Describe a multi-user operating system
• Analyse multi-user computer operating systems
• Set up user access to a LAN.
• Set up a directory service infrastructure for a LAN.
• Monitor performance of a LAN.
• Resolve user access, fileserver and performance problems with a LAN.
• Implement a backup strategy for a LAN.
• The performance of all elements is to a standard that allows for further learning in this area.

• Should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental mathematics at least up to NQF Level 3 and demonstrate an understanding of local and wide area networks and their installation.
